Ronneby, Sweden, September 15, 2003 - UIQ Technology today announces the launch of the UIQ 2.1 SDK for Symbian OS v7.0. The new SDK provides developers with new options, tools and services making it even easier to develop applications for UIQ based media-rich mobile phones. In conjunction with today's launch of Borland C++BuilderX - a new, IDE featuring advanced enterprise mobile development capabilities. UIQ also announces today that the UIQ 2.1 SDK is UIQ's first SDK to add full support for Borland tools. UIQ is a user friendly and customizable pen-based user interface platform for media-rich mobile smartphones based on Symbian OS. "Borland support for the UIQ 2.1 SDK is in direct response to customer demand," said J.P. LeBlanc, vice president and general manager of Mobile and C++ solutions at Borland. "The C++BuilderX development environment was engineered to assist the growing number of organizations that are extending their business infrastructures to include mobile applications and devices. By supporting the UIQ SDK, Borland is furthering its commitment to supplying the smartphone developer community with the solutions needed to create enterprise applications for Symbian OS." "The growth rate of UIQ-based applications has been the fastest in the smartphone market since the launch of the first UIQ-based smartphone � the SonyEricsson P800 � in Q1 of this year. Today, there are more enterprise applications being created for UIQ than for any Symbian OS smartphone platform," said Johan Sandberg, CEO of UIQ Technology. "With the advanced mobile development capabilities offered by Borland's C++BuilderX IDE, UIQ application developers can take advantage of the growing commercial opportunities in the fast moving smartphone market." Not only have UIQ-based smartphone applications been some of the most downloaded applications on Handango's Web site at www.handango.com and other sites powered by Handango, but sales of UIQ applications have grown more than 200% so far this year." The UIQ SDK is a development kit designed for software developers and third-parties developing applications and services for mobile phones based on the UIQ platform. The UIQ SDK contains binaries and tools to facilitate the development and deployment of applications for UIQ-based mobile phones. It also contains comprehensive reference and guidance materials, examples and a PC-based emulation of the UIQ platform to enable fast development turn-around times. Application development in both C++ and Java is supported. The Borland C++BuilderX IDE is also included as part of the latest edition of Borland� Enterprise Studio for Mobile. Also launched today, Enterprise Studio for Mobile provides a complete Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution for mobile application developers.
