Perhaps this new offering from Palm represents a softening of it's Strictly Business image, adding Multimedia to the newest Palm device. And 4GB is an impressive number for sure. I wouldn't mind test driving it myself. Does Palm have the reach to move into multimedia smoothly? Or is there enough business demand for mm that may pave the way? What do you think about this? Is this the Palm you've been waiting for? --------------------------------------------- PalmOne Jumps into Mobile Management By Susan Rush May 9, 2005 NEWS@2 DIRECT PalmOne is taking its customers, especially its high-end ones, into a new category of wireless: the mobile manager. The first product is expected to be unveiled before month's end. The handheld device developer said it forged into the new category in answer to its customers' call to be able to more easily transport, file and manage rich digital content. Customers who will flock to its new product category, according to palmOne, are those who embrace the "digital everything" trend. The mobile manager category delivers a new mobile-computing product that "will let customers fuse their own mix of personal and business content in ways never before possible," said Page Murray, palmOne's vice president of marketing. Although palmOne is trying to keep the wraps on the device's details, Amazon.com recently reported the mobile manager product would be called "LifeDrive Mobile Manager." It reportedly will be a 4GB multimedia device that will retail for around $500. PalmOne says it will continue to serve its other market segments, in addition to the new category. Beyond mobile managers, palmOne sees the rest of its customer base broken down into two categories: handhelds for organizers and smartphones for convergence seekers. Separately, palmOne said it has hooked up with Telstra Mobile to launch the Treo 650 in Australia. Telstra is offering the device for about $925.
