Currently Apple is falling into the “antenna gate”caused by iPhone4，which is almost the first large-scale crisis since it got into the mobile communications field.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs personally held a press conference on the "antenna door" on July 16, acknowledging the signal problems in iPhone4. But he said such problems are a common problem in BlackBerry, for instance, BlackBerry Bold9700 on RIM's platform, HTC Droid Eris on Android platform and Samsung Omnia Ⅱ on Microsoft Windows Mo-bile platform all showed that such conditions were easily appeared on smart Blackberry (blackberry phone accessories). Apple's new-generation product iPhone4 is thinner with an ingenious design, of which the metal frame is designed for cell phone antennas, which is to be proud of. But some users and experts reflect that it is easily to receive signal attenuation when take the iPhone4 in the hand.
Jobs’ explanation immediately drew protests from other companies. Not only RIM who was manly compared with said that the explanation could not be accepted, but also Nokia, the world's largest cell phone company, issued a statement on the same day said that “Nokia's focus is performance, not design when the antenna design and antenna performance conflict”.
Nokia said in the statement that “Antenna design is a very complex project”. Nokia has accumulated more than ten years and it has been the core competence. Nokia responded that the antenna's performance is indeed affected when we hold the phone in hand, “therefore, we have to ensure the performance of the antenna in the design of the antenna. No matter we hold the phone in left hand or right and no matter the antenna is designed on the top or bottom as well as the materials are all considered by Nokia.”
In fact, Jobs is not specifically mentioned Nokia in the conference, Nokia's response showing the current tensions between the two sides from one angle. The patent issue between Nokia and Apple from disputes rising to the litigation and so far it is unresolved since it entered the field of mobile communications in 2007. Apple has become the world's third smart cell phone provider (cheap cell phone cases), which is a direct threat to the first Nokia and RIM.
