“TD’s future will largely depend on whether OPhone can be successful.” said Wang Jing, the secretary general of TD-SCDMA Forum. In this year, OPhone will be the key point of TD industry.
OPhone is a TD mobile phone which use OMS phone’s operating system. In order to break TD terminal bottleneck ,China Mobile cooperated with Borqs Communication last year, launching OMS BlackBerry operating system which was based on Google Android system.
Wang Jing said that although there have been 266 TD terminals (including the BlackBerry phones, data cards, etc.) (blackberry phone accessories) passing the network authentication, these terminals can not match iPhone on function, appearance, user experience, and etc. Therefore, it falls on OPhone to rival iPhone.
Wang Dun, the vice president of Borqs said , in this year, Borqs’ major work is to assist China Mobile and mobile terminal manufactures to finish 30 OPhones’ development. Borqs will launch the upgrade system of OPhone. OPhone system will keep the compatibility with Google Android, that is, customers who download Android’ s application can also be used on OPhone.
According to the datas that China Mobile published last year, at present TD users have broken 5million, and it will break 10million in this year as expected. While it is showed in iSuppli’s new report that since China Telecom operaters have provided large subsidies to reduce phones’ price, the 3G mobile phones are expected to sale 42.97 million in 2010, which will increase five times compare with last year’s 7.2million.
In addition, the Ministry of IMT communication development department, Zhang Feng said we produced 620million mobile phones last year which have increased 9.8percent (htc phone accessories). 3G developed rapidly after it was launched and there were 13.25million users by last year, among which 5.1 million users have intellectual property rights of TD.
