For the Third Consecutive Year, IDG's Computerworld Names Verizon Wireless One of the "Best Places to Work in IT"

Verizon Wireless Highest Ranked Telecommunications Provider in Annual Survey of Information Technology Professionals

BEDMINSTER, NJ — For the third consecutive year, Verizon Wireless, owner and operator of the nation’s most reliable wireless network, has been recognized as one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals by IDG’s Computerworld.

This year, Verizon Wireless is the highest ranked telecommunications provider, placing 29th, up from 52nd in 2004.
Verizon Wireless’ Information Technology Department was selected based on the excellence and quality of the working environment in addition to results of a survey given to current Information Technology Department employees. Topics covered in the survey included satisfaction with training and development programs, salary, bonuses, health benefits and work/life balance.

Additionally, employees were asked to rate morale in their IT departments and the importance of various benefits.

“We’re very pleased that Verizon Wireless has once again been recognized by Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in IT survey,” said Martha Delehanty, vice president of human resources for Verizon Wireless. “Our national reputation as a great place to work – with a great total compensation and benefits package, and outstanding training and career opportunities – helps us to attract, retain and promote the very best talent and to deliver the very best wireless experience to our 45.5 million customers nationwide.”
“This year’s Best Places to Work rankings represent companies across the [IT] industry that recognize how a strong commitment to and investment in employees is synonymous with creating a great IT work environment,” said Don Tennant, editor-in-chief of Computerworld. “Once again, we found that IT professionals are looking for rewarding and challenging projects, access to leading-edge technologies, career growth and development and a comfortable work/life balance. Our Best Places companies not only offer these benefits, but do so in a manner that goes well-above industry norms.”

Since 1994, Computerworld’s annual “Best Places to Work in IT” feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals. The “Best Places to Work in IT” is part of the weekly IT publication’s 12th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in today’s issue and online at Computerworld.com
