December 9, 2003 - The two companies announced today that they will closely cooperate to integrate their industry-leading Bluetooth test and debug tools.

Bluetooth wireless technology is implemented into more than 50 million devices in about 350 products throughout the world. To ensure that these products can communicate/interoperate with each other, and pass the required qualification process, development engineers need a multitude of test and debug tools. With the Bluetooth SIG launch of a new category of qualification instruments named PTS (Profile Test System), the market need for a combined toolchain of the classic Bluetooth protocol analyzer (commonly called sniffers) and PTS becomes apparent. IAR Systems, with the PreQual™ PTS product, and Frontline Test Equipment, with the FTS4BT™ Bluetooth protocol analyzer, manufacturers of these two complementary tools, have joined in a strategic technical partnership to respond to this new market need. A roadmap for technical integration has been laid out and new product features will become available during 2004.

Eric Kaplan, Frontline President, commented: “We have hinted to some key customers that an IAR/Frontline strategic alliance was coming, and the response has been excellent. Customers see the movement in tools integration as something that will make their jobs much easier. Analyzers are a key debug tool in Bluetooth development and PTS systems are expected to very quickly become vital in the debug and qualification process. PTS systems will reduce development time and improve time to market. Both tools are needed, and we are all looking forward to the outcome of this very promising partnership.”

About IAR PreQual

PreQual is addressing the urgent need from the manufacturers of Bluetooth enabled products, for a combined debug and test instrument that helps them to secure that their products are fully interoperable with other Bluetooth Products. IAR PreQual is an instrumented implementation of the Bluetooth test specifications made for Bluetooth development engineers. The PreQual toolchain comprises today the following instrumented and qualified testsuites: Handsfree (HFP), Headset (HSP), Filetransfer (FTP), Object push (OPP), Synchronisation (SYP) and Dial up networking (DUN).

Other instrumented Bluetooth test specifications in the IAR PreQual product suite are: LAN Access Profile, Personal Area Network (PAN), Human Interface Device (HID),Generic Audio Video Profile (GAVDP), Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP). These are due to be qualified within a short time. IAR PreQual has been on the market since 1999 and started as an reference test instrument at mobile phone manufacturers but is today widely used all across the Bluetooth industry

About FTS4BT

The FTS4BT Bluetooth protocol analyzer is used by leading Bluetooth companies worldwide and is a corporate standard at Bluetooth chipmaker CSR. Since becoming available in late 2002, FTS4BT has become recognized as the leading analyzer for debugging and verifying Bluetooth applications.

Some of the reasons that FTS4BT has become so popular, so quickly include: Realtime operation that allows data to be analyzed as it is captured (capture, display, decode, filter, and detect errors all at the same time), highly portable, finger-sized, air sniffing hardware, excellent piconet synchronization, enhanced support for Park, Hold, and Sniff low power modes, quad-mode sniffing (air, serial HCI, USB HCI, and Virtual), single-click protocol filtering, familiar tree (Explorer style) protocol decode display, TCP/IP support comparable to an Ethernet analyzer, built-in support for user-defined decodes and HCI Vendor Extensions, highly detailed protocol decodes, and extensive profile support.
