OK, here's one of many stories like it. City council debates whether to make it illegal to use a cell phone while driving. I gotta ask, (maybe it's just me) but how is holding a cell phone and talking any different from holding a hamburger and talking while driving, or changing the CD with one hand and talking while driving, or....... Is there any difference? There are already rules against driving recklessly or carelessly. There are laws not having proper control of the vehicle. Are there any greater dangers inherent in cell phone use, than say: Women applying makeup while driving Having your dog or cat in your lap while driving Reading a book while driving Reading a newspaper while driving Changing your shirt while driving Consulting a map while driving Dancing (seat dance) and clapping while driving All of these things, I have observed folks do while driving. No doubt you could add to the list , and I hope you do. Well, as I said here's the article. Tell us what YOU think, now that I've had my rant! --------------------- Car Cell Phone Restrictions in Chicago Get OK Associated Press The Chicago City Council's Traffic Committee Monday approved the cell phone restriction. The proposal calls for a $50 fine for drivers who use a handheld cell phone while driving. The fine would increase to $250 if a driver gets into an accident while talking on a handheld cell phone. Alderman Burton Natarus, who first introduced the proposal about six years ago, says he believes drivers who use handheld phones cause safety risks and increase congestion on city streets. Representatives from Verizon Wireless, Sprint and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce urged the committee not to approve the proposal. The full City Council must still vote on the proposal. from http://www.wifr.com/news/headlines/1438007.html
