Verizon is rolling out a new service to help companies with employees out in the field keep track of them better.

Field employees traditionally experience a little more independence and may not appreciate being asked to log on their phones at the beginning and end of each assignment and so forth.

Of course since it requires self reporting it is also open to easy abuse or manipulation so it is not certain that companies will find it useful unless it can also be meshed with GPS so that it is clear for instance that an employee is truly at the job site when he logs in as finished, instead of at QuikTrip enjoying a slurpee and hot dog.

What do you think? Would you like using this as an employee? Would you as an employer use it to manage personnell?

Timecard Provides Verizon Wireless Get It Now(R) Customers Access to Timesheet and Job Tracking Information

Mobile Professionals Have Access to Wireless Time Entry Through the Verizon Wireless Get It Now Virtual Store

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. and BEDMINSTER, N.J., June 2, 2005 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- ECONZ Wireless, a mobile platform software provider, and Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, today announced Timecard, a Get It Now application that enables employees to log time, attendance and job information via a mobile timesheet directly from their wireless phones.

"We are pleased to offer another ECONZ wireless product to Verizon Wireless small-to-medium business customers," said Jim Straight, vice president of multimedia services for Verizon Wireless. "We anticipate that Timecard will address the time tracking needs of many mobile working professionals and fill an important niche in the process."

"Timecard is ideal for companies where time and attendance tracking is useful for determining job completion and maintaining records of working hours and job types," says Steve Davis, chief marketing officer for ECONZ Wireless. "Because it is available through Verizon Wireless' Get It Now service, mobile professionals can easily access log information at all times from a remote location."

Timecard, a two-part Web-based software product, enables mobile professionals to log clock-in times, break times, job categories, and clock-out times in addition to accessing past and present timesheet information, eliminating the need for paperwork transactions. Perfect for employees that are on a site for long periods of time, Timecard customers capture their task and time information without having to go back to the office. A necessity for projects managers as well, Timecard also helps administrators view the status of their employees at any time for accurate budgeting and customer service responses.

Timecard is available now from Verizon Wireless on select Get It Now-enabled phones. Customers download the application from the getGOING shopping aisle of the Get It Now virtual store on select phones and access it via the Internet where a setup wizard walks the customer through the installation process.
