Hey everyone, Wondering if you knew anything about Canadian cell phone companies? I'm moving from the US to Nova Scotia this summer and don't want to lose cell phone contact with people here. Is Rogers my only choice? I want a good North American plan for calls in Canada and to the US, and also for travelling in the US. Ultimately it would be great if people in the US could call me without the big long distance charges since most won't have a NA plan, but I don't see a solution for that. Any thoughts? Much Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim,

I live in Calgary, Alberta and have been using Rogers for over a year now without any problems. I was just holidaying in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and made several calls back home to Canada and charges were a little on the expensive side but didn't surprise me.

I don't even use a land line. My cell phone is my only line and it works great for my lifestyle.

Living in Canada you do have other options aside from Rogers though. Check out Telus Mobility, Sprint PCS, Virgin Mobile and Fido Wireless.

One other thing worth mentioning. Fido has been a subsidiary of Rogers Wireless Inc. since November 2004.

Let me know if you have any further questions. Happy to answer them for ya!

Thanks for the info Neko. I wish the Canadian carriers were as competitive as the US companies (Verizon, Cingular, etc). I currently get unlimited night and weekend calls, free mobile to mobile calls to other Cingular users, and rollover minutes (unused minutes each month accumulate). Hopefully as the cell phone industry expands, the Canadian wireless companies will begin to offer more freebies to the customers.

As far as your American friends calling you in Canada , Verizon is 20 cents/min, Sprint 9 cents/min , Cingular 19 cents/min, TMobile 20 cents/min.
