Boost Makes AOL, MSN, and Yahoo! Instant Messaging Services Available on Boost Mobile Phones; Boost Mobile Partners with OZ to Bring World's Leading Instant Messaging Services to Boost Customers IRVINE, Calif., Nov 03, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Boost Mobile(R) customers are now able to use the world's top three instant messaging services, including the AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger services, directly on their cell phones. The new mobile IM service provides Boost Mobile phone users with a branded and familiar look and feel that is comparable to that of desktop IM services. "We are extremely pleased to provide our subscribers with this state of the art instant messaging service. Our customers want to stay connected and use both voice and text communications to keep in touch with friends," said Craig Thole, director of value-added services, Boost Mobile. "With the addition of the new instant messaging (IM) solution, our customers are able to send IMs, and chat phone-to-phone or PC-to-phone in real time using the same instant messaging services they know from their PCs." "By offering the AIM(R) service on cell phones, Boost Mobile is giving its subscribers instant access to our network of more than 43 million Americans, so that they can easily see who is online and available to chat," said Raine Bergstrom, director of Messaging Products, AOL Wireless. "Mobile versions of the popular AIM service let Boost Mobile subscribers access their familiar Buddy List(R) feature and ping their friends and family everywhere they go." Boost customers can access AOL's AIM, Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger services by downloading the application directly from their Java(TM) technology-enabled Boost Mobile phone or from Boost LIVE (www.BoostLIVE.com). The application costs $.99 per day per instant messaging service for unlimited access and the charge only applies on the days that customers use it. Boost Messenger also enables Boost customers to link their instant messaging list to their Boost address book so they can switch from instant messaging to a phone call or Boost(TM) Walkie-Talkie call with no hassles. "Our Yahoo! Messenger users want to stay connected to their friends even when they are on the move and we are pleased to work with Boost Mobile to help consumers stay in touch whenever and wherever they are," said Thad White, director of product management, Yahoo! Mobile. "Bringing our leading Yahoo! Messenger service to consumers on their mobile phone helps them keep in touch with the people who matter to them and makes mobile messaging simple and fun." "MSN's goal is to bring our customers closer to the people and information that matter most to them. We're thrilled to collaborate with Boost to help make this connection real for our customers, even while they're on the go," said Matt Champagne, director of MSN Mobile. "This alliance with Boost delivers on our vision and extends the rich MSN Messenger experience to millions of customers worldwide." Boost Mobile selected the OZ Mobile IM Solution to provide its subscribers with a proven, standards-based and customizable client application. Working with the top instant messaging service providers, AOL, MSN and Yahoo!, the OZ Mobile IM Client enables mobile operators to offer a mobile IM experience that looks familiar to users' existing desktop IM services, and allows end-users to easily select which IM service they would like to use. "Boost has a strong following with the U.S. youth market, and we are pleased to be working with them to extend the PC based IM experience to the mobile phone," said Skuli Mogensen, chief executive officer and founder, OZ. "Together with the top IM service providers, we are helping Boost to fulfill the youth markets' insatiable desire to stay connected while on-the-go."
