1st Rule of Wireless: Carrier first, phone second. Not sure where you are located, but one thing sure: So much of a carrier's performance in your area is based on location. It can vary widely from one side of town to the other.

Best thing is to talk to folks where YOU are. The building you work in, your school building, your street, the stores you shop, the streets you travel daily or regularly etc. What carrier do those people have? Do they pull a good signal or not?

Try to talk to several users from each carrier. Concentrate on the service to the phone. Forget for a while about phone features, plans , prices, etc.

All the cool features in the world mean little if you can't make a call.

If you're fortunate , there will be several carriers in your area that provide good all around signal strength. Then you can think about secondary issues such as phone, plans & pricing. If there is only one carrier in the places YOU are that will always have service , the choice is pretty clear.

Once you have purchased a phone, most carriers give you at least 14 days grace period. Use this time to the fullest. Call everyone you know from everywhere you go, for no reason at all. If you do not get service where YOU will need it, return it within your grace period; no matter how persuasive the salesman (" a new tower is going up on your street next week!") or how "hot" the deals.

Have fun during this time learning about everything you can. You might be able to help someone else!

Be sure to report back so we also can benefit from your experience.
