Alltel is making moves again that are sure to make others take notice. Now claiming the largest footprint for PTT (Push-to-Talk, or "walkie talkie" for us regular folks) of ANY carrier. Bigger than Verizon's newly re-introduced PTT. Bigger than Sprint's Ready Link. Bigger than PTT King -- Nextel. Wow, nobody can say that's not impressive.

Any Alltel PTT users out there? Here's your chance to brag about the bennies of this move for you, so let's hear it!

ALLTEL Expands Touch2Talk Walkie-Talkie Service Nationwide; Two New Handsets Added along with Enhanced Rate Plans and Features

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Mar 24, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- ALLTEL (AT) is expanding its Touch2Talk walkie-talkie service with coast-to-coast coverage, supported by enhanced rate plans and features on two new handsets geared to both consumer and business customers.

"ALLTEL Touch2Talk customers now have access to the same nationwide footprint for their standard voice and data services as well as Touch2Talk calls," said Frank O'Mara, executive vice president of marketing for ALLTEL. "This gives our Touch2Talk customers a service area larger than any other carrier offers. In addition, we are introducing two new phones and innovative features that further define Touch2Talk as best-in-class in the marketplace."

ALLTEL has the only walkie-talkie product that allows users to toggle from a Touch2Talk conversation to a regular wireless call at the touch of a button. In addition, customers can set up group calls through the handset, a unique feature delivering greater simplicity and convenience for users.

New features include a "Buddy Alert" that sends a message to a Touch2Talk handset advising that a contact is waiting. The receiving user then presses and holds the Touch2Talk button to begin the conversation. Expanded contact list management tools also have been added.

"Customers are finding Touch2Talk ideal for short bursts of conversation, be it during family activities or communicating with employees one-on-one or in groups regardless of their locations," O'Mara said.

ALLTEL's national expansion includes new local and coast-to-coast Touch2Talk rate plans.

Customers with local calling plans - Greater Freedom, Local Freedom or Free to Roam - can add 100 private (one-to-one) minutes and 50 group minutes for $5 per month or $10 for unlimited private and 100 group minutes. National Freedom and Total Freedom plan customers will pay $15 for unlimited private and 100 group minutes.

Touch2Talk is now available on the Kyocera KX440 and LG AX4750 handsets. The Kyocera "bar" phone model is a rugged handset priced at $49.99 with a two-year service contract or $109.99 for one-year agreement while the LG clamshell model is $99.99 with a two-year contract or $159.99 with one-year agreement. Both handsets have high-quality built-in speakers.

ALLTEL is a customer-focused communications company with more than 13 million customers and $8 billion in annual revenues. ALLTEL provides wireless, local telephone, long-distance, Internet and broadband services to residential and business customers in 26 states.
