One possible reason is if the headset jack is breaking loose from the board inside. This could cause it to shift to various angles. This could have happened if it was bumped very hard while the headset was plugged in. (Not sure I would have recommended the wet alcohol bit. Doesn't sound too good to me.) If this is a Sprint Sanyo 8100, there may be several options. Many of the Sprint retail stores have repair techs. Get an estimate of what is really wrong and how much to fix it. Might not be as much as you think. Also before you take your phone to the tech, scan around for a used 8100: Check the Buy Sell forum here check eBay call Sprint and ask about refurbished phones including 8100s. That way you can compare against repairing it what a replacement would cost. Let us know what you find and also how things turn out for you. It could help others in similar situations.
