My friend just gave me an old SGH600 which I desperately need. But when I make a call, even to my service provider (MTN South Africa), parts of the speech keep dropping out as if I'm losing my signal, even though my signal levels shows strong and theres an antenna pretty near me. I dont lose the call but I cant really hear whats been said.

Also, my service providers automated operator is pretty soft and so is my phone ringtone.

Is it my phone or the service provider causing the prob? I think it seems worse on calls of lower volume, but I'm not sure. Is it gating because the volume of the phone's too soft, or is the volume just soft for another reason?

Perhaps the problem is just that the phone is falling apart. That has happened to some friends after they;ve had their phones for awhile. To take care of the problem for now I would say just get an earpiece. That goes through a different system then your speaker. You can get them for free at freeheadset.org, You will likely need to just get a new phone eventually. You can find older models very cheap on ebay.com, and newer models cheaper than the store price there as well.
