Hi Cdn, Not sure if this is your carrier's fault. One way to test this is to borrow a friend's Fido phone and try to use it in the same places where you are unable to use yours. If the phone is freezing up, even when you are outdoors where you said you always get a signal, then it sounds like a phone problem not your carrier. However, your carrier may be part of the solution. If the software on your model of phone can be upgraded, then a Fido dealer should be able to help you do this. Also pick their brain while you are there. (Don't go to the carrier's store in the evening when the part time help is there. If you can, the best time to go is when a full time tech is on duty, if they have such a thing in your area.) The battery is a somewhat possible source of problems, but not as likely. If you think it is, try borrowing an extra battery from a friend if you can and see if there is a difference. Has the phone been left in the charger for long periods of time without being used? (You mentioned the phone had been used sparingly.) Overcharging can damage the battery and shorten it's usefulness. It maybe something much simpler than a battery, such as a loose antenna, etc. but a software problem sounds like a real possibility. Also have you added any software, etc to the phone recently (games, ringers, wallpaper included) that may be from a third party source? I know that sounds like a lot of different rabbit trails , but if your carrier has a knowledgeable tech, he should be able to narrow the list fairly quickly. Also in case you don't have one, here is a link to a downloadable manual for your phone. http://downloads.nokiausa.com/userguides/3390.PDF Let us know what you find out. We are interested and want to help.
