ATLANTA and PLANTATION, Fla. ? 16 December 2003 ? Southern LINC?, the wireless communications service from Southern Company (NYSE: SO), and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the new Motorola i530 handset. This durable handset is designed for active individuals, and will be available for purchase through Southern LINC in early January. The GPS technology-enabled handset is the first ruggedized flip-style handset offered by Southern LINC.

?Southern LINC offers communications solutions for all types of businesses,? said Bob Dawson, president and CEO of Southern LINC. ?The i530 handset allows users to stay productive and sustain a competitive edge, even in extreme environments, with a compact, sturdy design.?

With rubber overmold on the sides for better grip, the Motorola i530 is an easy-to-use handset available in solid black or yellow and black. The compact handset offers the features associated with Motorola's iDEN technology including Instant LINCSM two-way radio, phone service, text messaging and data access.* The Motorola i530 handset also offers many advanced features such as a 600-entry contact list, speakerphone and VibraCall? alert. The handset meets military specifications for shock, vibration, dust and humidity.
