Nextel, Verizon add new phones to portfolios May 16, 2005 RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. announced it will sell the Motorola Inc. i275 camera phone for $100 with a service agreement. The phone features a voice recorder and voice-activated dialing, downloadable applications and Nextel's push-to-talk service.
"Just because a phone is jam packed with many different functions doesn't mean that it has to be strictly utilitarian or incredibly expensive," said Blair Kutrow, Nextel's vice president of product management. "The i275 has a flair for style, with several features that add character to how our customers can communicate, and at a price of $99.99 with a $25 mail-in rebate, it's not cost prohibitive either."

Separately, Motorola will sell its CDMA/GSM phone through Verizon Wireless for $400 with a two-year service agreement. Motorola's clamshell-style A840 supports both GSM and CDMA networks and features a speakerphone, 1.2-megapixel camera and a Web browser.
In other phone news, Calypso Wireless Inc. announced its dual-mode phone prototypes are now available for testing. The phones allow users to conduct Voice over IP calls through Wi-Fi networks and then roam onto GSM wide area networks.
