Mad

Hi! (Sorry but this is long. SHort version is I think I need 2 good circuit bosrds--Alltel). Original problem w/ mine is the ports for internal battery charging and handsfree headsets are loose/sloppy so I can not use them).

Maybe I am trying to do the impossible: I have a Motorola T720C, CDMA, Alltel and I am trying to repair mine and build another one for my young nephew. I got the bright idea to buy some assorted broken or partial T720's on ebay (both cdma and GSM). I knew some of the pieces on each were interchangeable. Unfortuantely, none of them were Alltel. The used CDMA's were Verizon and at the time I believed that was a company connected w/ Alltel or at least somewhat compatiable.

So far, I have taken them apart so many times that I can almost field strip them in the dark. I put a verizon circuit baord in the my Alltel & this is what happened:

Well, went to Alltel store (2nd night) and they did not even want to try to "flash" their program to my Alltel--Verizon---Sprint phone. Said it might "fry" their stuff. I convinced them to connect to their wonder programming PC and then they got real confused. The computer said it was a Verizon (motherboard only) that is somehow connected to Sprint w/ a possible unknown pre-pay plan as a chaser.

They did manually program in my Alltel # for whatever that is worth. I then pulled out two other Verizon cells (same model and CDMA type) and their PC scanned them and got no gos on those too. Blah, blah, blah from them w/ alittle atitude too. They said it couldn't be done and I'd have to buy Alltel phones only....We'll see.

THEN:

Then, for kicks, my 16 yr old nephew and I went to a Sprint store. I immediately warned them that I was frustrated. After hearing them tell me for 5 minutes that it WAS NOT A SPRINT phone so they would not even touch it/look at it and more no's I sortof stormed out of the store. I said I wanted the non-Sprint cell phone "De-Sprinted". I wasn't asking them to fix it but just take their Sprint crap out of it.

We then went to a restaurant and between courses, pulled out the "new" Verizon motherboard-circuit board and popped back in the "old" Alltel and it worked just like before "repaired".

The motherboards are in 2 pieces and I wonder if half is Verizon and half Sprint. Maybe Motorola would know somethin about their own s**t. Guess the stores can only sell stuff.

So, I am oping that if I can buy 3 good circuit bards for Alltel or compatiable, then I would have 2 good phones.

Motorola won't help---NO tech support, refused me!. Several local repair places do not even know where to get circuit boards. Stores only sell stuff. Alltel tech told me that the older T720's can be "flashed" from another service to Alltel.

Is all this hassle because they want me to buy brand new phones?

ANy suggestions? Again, sorry this post is so long.

Would appreciate any assistance or advice.

Sounds like you may be looking for T720C circuit boards. On eBay right now for the next 16 hrs there are 8 lots of 8 phones each startin g at 0.99 for the lot search.ebay.com/motorola-T720C_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8

They are listed as Verizon compatible phones being sold for parts only.

Not sure if your Alltel rep can/will activate these on Alltel service or not. Your first Alltel rep sounded somewhat lost in the fog. But if the Alltel tech who told you it could be done can actually make it happen, then you're in business.

(Sprint has never carried the T720C and Sprint's policy is not to activate any non-Sprint phone on their network. All Sprint phones are registered by ESN in Sprint's system and if the ESN does not match they will not/ the system cannot be made to activate it. Even in a situation where two carriers support the same model, example both Sprint and Verizon carry the Treo 600, a CDMA phone by PalmOne; you couldn't bring your Verizon Treo 600 to Sprint for activation because the ESN won't show up in Sprint's database. )

Good luck with these and let us know how things turn out.
