Motorola supplying mobile communications solutions for Iraqi needs BAGHDAD, Iraq, Feb 06, 2004 - Motorola (NYSE:MOT), which has played a key role in meeting the critical telecommunications needs of post-conflict Iraq, has appointed Mazin Al-Eshaiker as Country Manager for Iraq. In this new position, Al-Eshaiker, who resides in Baghdad, will be responsible for assessing how Motorola’s broad technology portfolio can help advance Iraq’s economic and social revitalization. “Motorola has been operating in the Middle East for more than 30 years. This announcement underlines our ongoing commitment to the region, and now to delivering telecommunications solutions to meet the needs of Iraq’s transition,” said Hassan Tavakoli, Motorola Vice President and Director of Motorola’s Global Resources and Relations Organization for the Middle East and Africa (MEA). Mazin Al-Eshaiker was born in Baghdad. He graduated from California State University in Electrical Engineering and received his MBA from the University of La Verne. Most recently, Mazin Al-Eshaiker was General Manager of EPS, an engineering services company based in California. Prior to that he held senior positions at Broadcom Corporation, Toshiba, Seagate, and Adaptec. “I am very pleased to return into my native country at this important time with a unique opportunity to apply Motorola technologies to the task of moving Iraq into a new, exciting era that holds great promise for the Iraqi people,” Al-Eshaiker said. Motorola has provided mission-critical radio communications support in Iraq since April 2003. As a result, Motorola is uniquely positioned to provide timely and effective implementation of a broad range of IT and telecommunications solutions serving Iraq’s utilities sectors (water and electric power generation and distribution), public safety organizations (courts, police, border patrol, fire, and emergency medical services), education and health care institutions (schools, clinics, hospitals), transportation industry (railroad signaling and communications, ports, airports, waterways), and the broader communication sector. In 2003 Orascom Telecom selected Motorola to be their primary supplier of GSM infrastructure for new mobile phone networks in Central Iraq and Baghdad. Those systems were designed with Motorola assistance for rapid deployment and, with the signing of licenses in December 2003, are in operation and poised to deliver first-ever mobile phone service to the Iraqi people. Since April 2003, Motorola also has delivered radio communications solutions to support a range of security, public safety and civil administration needs in Iraq.
