Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global CDMA wireless handset manufacturer, and JAMDAT Mobile Inc., a global wireless entertainment publisher, announced today that they are partnering to make JAMDAT Mobile game demos the only embedded wireless game content on Kyocera’s BREWTM-enabled K400 series handsets in North America. The games will be pre-loaded premium demos of JAMDAT Bowling, JAMDAT Solitaire, JAMDAT Casino and BejeweledTM and will be featured on Kyocera's Aktiv, Energi, and PhantomTM handsets through participating North American carriers. Kyocera will preload the JAMDAT game demos on K400 handset models sold in North America during 2004. After a short trial period, users will be given the option to purchase the full version of the game through a link from their handset’s BREW-enabled browser.* If the user chooses not to download the full version, the premium demo allows him or her to continue to play the feature-limited games as often as desired. “Our consumer marketing research shows that casual gamers are taking the overall gaming experience of the phone into more consideration when selecting a handset, so ease of use and premium game demos increase the overall attractiveness of the phone," said Don McGuire, vice president of global marketing, Kyocera Wireless Corp. “JAMDAT provides some of the most popular mobile games available so naturally we chose those titles as the exclusive embedded content for this line of handsets, which have been well received by carriers and consumers alike for their simplicity.” Kyocera Aktiv (or K480) features a sporty, user-changeable faceplate design and active coloring with rubberized texturing for increased durability, important for today’s busy lifestyles. Kyocera’s Energi (or K490) features a unique keypad design and user-changeable faceplates for wireless users looking for extra design touches in an easy-to-use handset. Kyocera’s popular Phantom (or K450) is now updated inside and out with an enhanced form-factor. All of the phones include new polyphonic ringtones, voice-activated dialing, wallpapers, embedded JAMDAT games, screensavers, and a world clock. Additionally, they are CDMA2000™ 1X* capable and A-GPS-enabled. The phones also feature Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) 2.0*, BREWTM 2.1*, TTY/TDD for the hearing impaired, and productivity tools including contact directory, scheduler, alarm clock and stopwatch. “Kyocera’s feature-rich phones and JAMDAT’s innovative games compliment each other very well,” said Mitch Lasky, CEO of JAMDAT Mobile Inc. “We’re pleased to embed demos of some of our most popular games like JAMDAT Bowling to these Kyocera handsets and allow users to be entertained anytime, anywhere.” Game Descriptions - JAMDAT Bowling is sublimely simple – just aim, adjust spin and power to send the ball rolling, and watch the pins fall in realistic gameplay.
- JAMDAT Solitaire challenges players to an old-time classic game, now playable on the go. With easy controls for all ages and levels, players can try their hand at one of three other game options, Runaround, Two-Close or Take 20.
- JAMDAT Casino puts three casino favorites on your mobile phone with Blackjack, Slots and Video Poker.
- Bejeweled, developed by PopCap and published for wireless by JAMDAT, requires players to think strategically to beat this fast paced, addictive puzzle-solving game. To score points, players remove three jewels of the same type by placing them in a row.
Kyocera Wireless and JAMDAT Mobile are both exhibiting at the BREW Developers Conference 2004 in San Diego June 7-9 at booths 28 and 29, respectively.
