The opportunity for you to become a victim of fraud visits you everyday! It's right here on your computer, it comes in your mailbox at the office or at home. The good news is, you can avoid becoming another victim of fraud.

Fraud works because of ignorance, stupidity and greed. These come about as a direct result of the fact MOST people are honest and they simply expect others in the world to be like them. This is the first step to getting yourself into some serious trouble and money loss!

You have to learn to "KNOW" who you're doing business with! IF you don't know them...then check them out!

I'm reminded of an old story about a small businessman who had a young son who he wanted to teach his business. So, when the lad was about 13 years old, his Dad took him up on the roof of his small store and left him there. His father soon reappeared down on the sidewalk below. The boy hollered down, "Dad, you took the ladder! How do you expect me to get down?"

The boy's father smiled at him, saying "Son, I'm your father, I wouldn't leave you up there. All you have to do to get down is jump!"

Well, the boy wasn't too sure about jumping off the roof, but his Dad told him "Son, you can trust Daddy, just jump and I'll catch you!" So, the boy jumped and his father stood there with his arms crossed as the lad busted his behind on the sidewalk. Only then did his Dad go to help his son up off the ground.

"Dad, why didn't you catch you me? You said I could trust you!" the boy cried with tears running down his cheeks.

His father pulled him onto his feet telling him, "Son, someday I want this to be your business and you needed to learn a lesson you'll never forget." The boy pondered his father's words and asked "What lesson? All you did was let me fall!"

"Yes, my son, that's the lesson," his father continued, "The very first lesson of business son...DON'T TRUST ANYBODY!"

In today's world of home grown international trade, online auctions, and the ability for anyone with or without a product to put a picture of that product online and "sell" it to others the chances of your being a victim of fraud have grown exponentially! And, you're not alone. More and more Americans are being defrauded daily by simply "expecting others to be as trustworthy as they themselves are!"

The basic rule is still (and always has been!) IF it sounds too good to be true...in 99.99% of ALL cases...IT ISN'T TRUE!

If a merchant is making you an offer with prices so low you can't believe it...DON'T Believe It! Make that seller PROVE that he can deliver the goods...at the quoted price!

Come on people...the old "Shipping charges weren't enough" is a SCAM so old it's truly difficult to believe ANYONE is still falling for it! Yet, it's also hard to fathom anyone falling for an Advance fee lottery scam...where you get notice you've won big bucks in a lottery "YOU" didn't enter and ALL you have to do is send them "transfer fees and taxes" to collect all those dollars! Stupid...yep...but the fraud bill in the U.S. last year was over $200 million dollars! I guess you chalk that score up as Scammers 200, Consumers zero!

Know who you are doing business with! IF you don't know them, don't jump on an offer until you've checked them and/or their company out.

IF you're reading stories in forums like this about MORE people being ripped off buying cell phones and laptops from outside the U.S....then WHY would you follow in their footsteps? Buy from dealers you know and can trust! The little extra you may pay over a scam artist's price that includes NEVER getting what you pay for...is well worth having a REAL product you can use and enjoy!

Think BEFORE you jump into a deal "too good to be true" and you will AVOID becoming another victim of fraud.
