Consumer Reports Ratings for Cell Phone Plans Providers
Much buzz has been circulating about the latest Consumer Reports survey of cell phone service. If you’re considering switching cell phone plans or are signing up for cellular service for the first time, now is a good time to decide, while the Consumer Report ratings are their freshest. Here’s a quick summary of their findings:
Verizon scored highest in the overall ratings and was a top performer in most of the cities surveyed by Consumer Reports. Verizon gets good voice coverage and has high marks for web services. Verizon is notably a little bit pricier than the competition, but they also have very good prepaid phones and were the first cell phone plan provider to offer prorated termination fees (meaning you get gouged less for cancelling your contract early).
Verizon Wireless is also known for its wide selection of phones. Popular Verizon phones include the Motorola Krave, the LG VX5500, the Palm Treo 700wx and the groundbreaking BlackBerry Storm.
T-Mobile is noted for its reasonably priced contracts and flexible prepaid plans. T-Mobile ranks just below Verizon for most ratings and has very high customer satisfaction ratings. Most notable, though, is the fact that T-Mobile was an early adopter of the Android operating system, with such phones as T-Mobile G1 with Google.
As for the others, Sprint and AT&T ranked a little bit lower than its competitors for both service and customer support. But Sprint/Nextel is notable as the first company to offer a 4G network for data and they are heavily pushing their WiMax technology, which is great for use with netbooks, like the HP Mini 1151 NR 10.1 Netbook. But what helps Sprint and AT&T most are their exclusive smartphone choices – Palm Pre first rolled out with an exclusive agreement with Sprint and AT&T continues to be home of the iPhone.
Which cell phone plan is best for you? That all depends on what you want from your cell phone service. The best way to choose is to pick a phone that matches your tastes and has an appealing set of features.
