What is 3.5G Service?
There are so many cell phone carriers and so many different phones that it’s hard to keep up with. However, one of the things that doesn’t change as quickly is the technology that runs the networks. As this moved from 1G to 2G to 3G, more data could be transmitted more quickly, and there were plenty of people who were interested in the latest, greatest, and fastest thing out there. At 3G, most of the networks stalled out and stopped making anything faster. There has been talk of 4G, but it’s going to be some time before there are any 4G networks out there. The best that most people can hope for today is 3.5G service, which is the next step toward 4G. It involves laying down new technology by using the old, as opposed to changing over to something new completely.
In a way, that’s good news, because it can happen faster and most 3G phones will still work with it. They aren’t the same as the phones that work on the limited 4G networks, so keeping a 3G phone can help you ensure that you have good cell phone coverage everywhere you go. Since 4G is so far away, 3G is the best way to go right now. Depending on where you live, you may end up with 3G coverage in some areas and 3.5G coverage in other areas. You probably won’t notice that much of a difference between the two, but when things go to 4G in the future you’ll certainly be aware of that.
