Understanding 3G Technology
There are a lot of technological advances out there when it comes to cell phones, and 3G is one of them. 3G stands for the third generation of technology, and it means that the way cell phones work, how well they function, and what they have to offer have all moved ahead from where they used to be. Many companies like AT&T, Nextel, and T-Mobile offer 3G phones that can do just about anything a customer would want. They take pictures, allow for texting, save phone numbers, play games, and use GPS to help you get found if you’re lost. They’ve come a long way in a very short period of time. The 3G phones generally include standards for WiMAX, DECT, UMTS, CDMA2000, and GSM EDGE.
Being able to use data and speech services at the same time, and much faster, is a lot of what 3G has to offer when it’s compared with 2G and 2.5G. Having more advanced services and being able to offer a much wider range of them to customers is a big plus for companies that use the 3G technology. If you’re looking for a cell phone, ask what generation the phone you’re considering is. If you have a phone and plan to change carriers, make sure you know all the compatibility requirements that need to be met. The more you understand about 3G technology and other cell phone terminology, the better equipped you’ll be to make the right decision for your mobile phone needs.
