Cell Phones for Senior Citizens

When it comes to cell phones and seniors it is one of the areas that really haven’t been marketed much and in some cases at all.
This is becoming to no longer be the case as some cell phones companies are beginning to market directly to senior citizens. With this they are beginning to design these phones to be easy to use especially for those that aren’t technically adept. One of the biggest things precluding a lot of the older generation form getting in on the cell phone game is that they don’t want to hassle with something they can’t figure out.
Safety and Benefits
Cell phones simply aren’t just something that gives the benefit of being able to chat. A cell phone offers a specific form of safety. If you find yourself in a car accident, lost somewhere, power outages, severe weather or any other type of inclement condition the cell phone can be your only lifeline to get help and the only communication that you have with the outside to let people know you’re ok.
One of the biggest benefits is for the active senior. A lot of seniors will take walks to get their exercise. Imagine yourself or your older mom or dad taking a walk and then lacking the energy to make it back or god forbid a fall. With a cell phone there is the ability to call for help and even if something doesn’t happen it can provide that certain peace of mind letting you know should something ever happen you have a lifeline right in your pocket.
Good Cell Phones
A lot of the younger generation and the office executive are into the fancy Blackberry and other types of “power phones” but most of the popular cell phone styles are:
•    Too difficult for the non tech savvy senior to use
•    Something that the senior doesn’t care for or want
Most of the cell phones have really small buttons and a display that is very hard to read. Add that along with the always changing and improving features and it is a learning curve that the senior doesn’t want to take.
Finally though there are phones that are starting to hit the market that are designed specifically with the senior citizen in mind. We’ll use one example of the company Greatcall.

Greatcall
Greatcall is a company that puts the focus on cell phones for seniors. The cell phones, which are called Jitterbug, are produced by Samsung. The Jitterbug is one of the only cell phones that are designed specifically in mind for the senior population.
The Jitterbug is simpler than the newer trendier phones. Some of the features include:
•    Larger buttons
•    Provides a dial tone when making an outgoing call
•    Sounds are louder and more clear than the traditional cell
•    Bright display screen with easier to read text
•    Call direct feature with dialing at the push of a button
•    The option to even have a Jitterbug operator dial for you
•    Inexpensive plans
The Jitterbug is the perfect phone for the senior that is afraid of technology.
Cell phones for seniors are an amazing idea. Not only does the cell phone provide safety but they also offer the ability to text and keep up with loved ones and the ever quickly changing world.
