Cell Phone Plans: Airtime – Are you Getting a Good Deal?

Airtime is the actual number of minutes that you spend talking on your cell phone. Companies that offer cell phone service charge different rates for their airtime, so it’s best to shop around. You want to get a good price and good coverage. In other words, don’t just get the cheapest airtime out there, because you might find that your coverage is terrible. If the service isn’t reliable, there isn’t much of a point in having a cellular phone in the first place. When it comes to airtime, also make sure that you pay attention to the time of day you’re talking. You can save money by talking more during off-peak hours, and each company defines what they mean by ‘off-peak.’ It’s usually nights and weekends, but start and stop times can vary by carrier.

You should always ask about airtime rates when you get a cell phone carrier, because you don’t want to end up paying too much for something you could have gotten cheaper elsewhere. Also, know how much you’ll be using the cell phone. You don’t need hundreds of minutes of airtime each month if you don’t talk on the phone very much. Don’t assume you need the ’standard’ plan or the one the salesperson suggests. Take time to think about it and get the plan that really works for you. Conversely, make sure you get one with enough airtime. If you go over the number of minutes that comes with the plan, it can be quite expensive. That’s something you’ll want to avoid.
