The Samsung Omnia 3 to Run Windows Phone 7
There was a prototype of the new Omnia 3 from Samsung shown at a recent event from Microsoft which means that Samsung is working to be a viable competitor to the iPhone.
The exclusive United States provider of the Samsung Omnia smartphone line has been Verizon Wireless. Should Verizon decide to offer the Omnia 3 as well the Verizon customers will have a very amazing mobile solution. In fact it likely will be as this could be the iPhone competitor that Verizon and Verizon customers have been waiting to have. It’s not yet known when exactly the Samsung Omnia 3 will is going to officially appear though.
There isn’t a lot of information available for the Omnia 3 yet other than the Microsoft minimum hardware requirements which are:
• WVGA capable touch screen, minimum of at least 4 contact points
• A-GPS
• Compass
• Accelerometer
• Proximity antenna
• 5 megapixel camera including a flash
• Button dedicated for the camera
• 8GB of flash memory and 256mb ram
• High end CPU with Direct X9 acceleration
With having all of that out there it is pretty easy to figure out the rest just by looking at the things Samsung is currently putting out in terms of high end smarphones at the present time. That is going to encompass the 720p video recording capability, DivX video playback and the AMOLED screens. Additionally there is all of the native functionality that comes with the Windows Phone 7 Series.
When you add the trusted Silverlight 4 applications into the mix the Samsung Omnia 3 looks like it is going to develop into possibly the hottest if not one of the hottest smartphones to hit the market when it is finally released.
The one thing to consider with the Silverlight 4 is that since it is brand new it isn’t known if it’s going to be released with the initial launch or come a little later. The one thing with that though is it would come and having the Silverlight 4 on board with the Omnia 3 would provide amazingly highly interactive applications in terms of both productivity tasks and for social networking.
Silverlight 4 is something that will provide the user access to the local files of the phone as well as hardware components like the camera and microphone. It will also allow for the 3rd party developers to provide admittance to the software functionality from inside the Silverlight 4 applications. For instance the latter could be related to the Microsoft Office or Outlook to name one specifically. The Silverlight 4 applications also will be able to offer the user the ability to be notified just like how Outlook provides users incoming email notifications. There is much, much more offered by the Silverlight 4 that would make for one amazing smartphone.
All things considered a Windows Phone 7 powered Samsung Omnia 3 will very much likely provide both he greatest and latest in cell phone technology and if you couple that with the greatest and latest in mobile software technology and you have one massively amazing phone.
It’s not yet clear if Verizon is going to pick it up and if it does if it will get an exclusive deal like the other Omnia models but if it doesn’t you can be sure there will be many carriers in line to get their hands on it for their customers.
