Top 5 Motorola Smartphones

Motorola has been decidedly hit or miss in the smartphone space. But with the introduction of the Motorola Droid, the first viable contender for the iPhone and the best fit for Google’s Android operating system, Motorola proves that they still got it when it comes to building rugged cell phones packed with features. Here’s a quick list of Motorola’s top 5 triumphs in the smartphone world:

Motorola Droid

This one goes without saying and is easily the most buzzworthy Verizon smartphone available today. As the first phone to run Android 2.0, the Motorola Droid has great features like voice prompted turn-by-turn navigation, Google’s Quick Search Box and a 5-megapixel camera with a flash. Plus, it’s got a full QWERTY keyboard and a powerful enough processor to keep the user interface smooth and fast.

Motorola Cliq

This was the first Android phone created by Motorola and it’s hot on the heels of Motorola Droid for the title of best Motorola Android smartphone. The Motorola Cliq is supercharged with the MotoBlur interface which melds all of the essential instant messaging and social media apps (Twitter, Facebook, AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, etc.) into an easy-access command center of connectivity. This phone is great for hyperconnected Millenials, but the old timers who prefer a phone strictly for verbal chitchat may find this beast a bit overwhelming. In terms of bang for the buck, though, the Motorola Cliq knocks it out of the park.

Motorola Q9M

The Motorola Q9M is the sequel to the popular Motorola Q. This smartphone looks and feels like a BlackBerry but it has enough multimedia features to go head to head with an iPod, too. It runs Windows Mobile with Documents to Go, which lets you edit, view and create Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.

Motorola Karma

The Motorola Karma is a neat little square-shaped phone that’s quite slick, both in design and performance. 3G speeds, full HTML browser, 3.5 mm headphone jack, 2.0-megapixel camera (with flash and 8x digital zoom) and other great features make this phone one neat little gadget.

Motorola ROKR E8

This hybrid music player/smartphone was supposed to set the world on fire. And while the Motorola ROKR E8 would’ve made a big splash two or three years before its time, it didn’t quite live up to the huge hype that it received. That’s not to say that it’s not a decent phone, because it definitely is. If you’re looking for a smartphone that handles music with intuitive ease, get the ROKR. It syncs well with Windows Media Player and has an innovative mode-switching capabality that transforms it from a phone, to a camera, to a music player and back again with the touch of a button.
