What is a Jesus Phone?

The term “Jesus Phone” refers to Apple’s iPhone, since the phone itself has caused a sort of religious or cult following since its inception. Thus, ever since the iPhone craze began, reporters and advertisers began to dub the phone the “Jesus Phone.” Further, various articles detailing the iPhone have made mention of religious slogans such as “your prayers have been answered.”

Never before has a phone gained as much praise and following as the iPhone has. Even before the phone was available to consumers, those who heard about the phone were anticipating the phone’s launch for months prior to its availability.

To many, Apple’s iPhone saved the world from the dull phones that preceded the iPhone. By offering cell phone users a phone that could do almost anything, Apple managed to gain a strong and loyal fan following. The iPhone still remains largely iconic, though the term “Jesus Phone” does not sit well with those of the Christian faith.

The term “Jesus Phone” has also been used in a mocking manner by those who do not believe that the iPhone is worth the price or the hype. These people call the device the “Jesus Phone” due to the fact that iPhone enthusiasts seem to be blindly following the cult of the iPhone. These people claim that there are better smartphones on the market, though the mass majority of people prefer to have faith in the iPhone.

Whether used in praise of the iPhone or as a way to mock iPhone users, it seems as though the term “Jesus Phone” will be around as long as the iPhone is.
