What is a candy bar cell phone?

Who hasn’t heard of the yummy sounding LG Chocolate cell phone and its even more delicious 2nd generation versions, the Mint Chocolate and Cherry Chocolate. These names are a clever play on the cell phone type, the candy bar cell phone.

Candy bar phones are a very popular cell phone type, especially with the younger population. Despite their sweet sounding name, candy bar cell phones get their name from their shape. They are basically rectangular phones that resemble a candy bar. They do not have a lid and do not flip open. Characteristically, candy bar phones feature an exposed number pad. Electronic key locks help to prevent dialing when the phone is not in use.

Newer candy bar cell phones feature a side slide out keyboard that retracts when the phone is not in use. This feature gives the user a full keyboard without adding bulk to the phone. More and more smart phone features are being added to this style of cell phone and most even come with touch screen options nowadays.

Another excellent feature of the candy bar style cell phone is the battery power. Since the phone is larger than a flip style cell phone, there is room for a larger battery. This means that users get the advantage of a longer talk time between charges.

The candy bar style phone does have its disadvantages, however. They tend to be a little more bulky than the flip style phones and their shape doesn’t provide a contour that fits the ear and mouth simultaneously. There is usually a large amount of extra space between the ear piece and the mouth piece that can make it challenging to have a conversation, especially when the user is moving. Because of its design, external noise can also be more of an issue than with flip phones.

The electronic key locks on some types of candy bar phones can also be tricky. Many users complain that the automatic lock feature does not work at all times and their phone ends up randomly calling unsuspecting persons without the user’s knowledge

All-in-all though, the candy bar cell phone is a stylish phone that gives the user all of the latest features with a more up-to-date look and feel than the flip style cell phone. Since virtually every cell phone maker has at least one version of a candy bar style phone, the user can find a phone with almost every feature they could possibly desire.
