Samsung Eternity
The Samsung Eternity A867 is AT&T’s offering for a touch screen 3G phone. The Samsung Eternity phone packs a 3.2 inch touch screen display, 3.0 megapixel camera, 200 MB internal memory and Bluetooth support into a tidy 4.3×2.2×0.5 inch candy bar design. The virtual QWERTY keyboard has dedicated punctuation keys and predictive text (which can be deactivated). The Samsung TouchWiz interface boosts the customizability of the home screen and supports “widget” applications including a clock, calendar, notepad, music player and more.
Music lovers will enjoy the 3.5mm headset jack which lets you use any standard set of headphones – though calls will still go through the normal speaker. There’s also a voice recorder, USB mass storage and a microSD port that gives you up to 16 GB of space. Full HTML rendered webpages can be scrolled through with a swipe of a finger and zoomed with the push of a button.
The 3.0 megapixel camera shoots in four resolutions and has some basic editing options, such as a self-timer, autofocus, white balance and brightness, four color effects, “fun frames,” “smile shot” mode and two resolutiosn for video (up to 1 minute for multimedia messages). The Samsung Eternity phone, however, lacks a camera flash.
The Samsung Eternity A867 supports AT&T’s Cellular Video service, AT&T Mobile music, AT&T Navigator and other 3G perks, such as Pandora, XM Radio Mobile and downloadable games. The battery hangs in there for 10.42 days on standby and gives you 5 hours of talk time.
Bottom-line: The Samsung Eternity is an affordable touch-screen for AT&T users looking for reliable 3G phone. On September 20, 2009, AT&T began offering the Samsung Solstice, which closely resembles the Samsung Eternity. The Solstice is a bit slimmer and comes with a revamped OS, but lacks TV tuner support and has a 2.0 megapixel camera.
