LG Rumor 2
When the LG Rumor 2 first hit the scene, it as much like the original Model T – straightforward with few extra features and available in any color you want – as long as it’s black. As of April 2009, the LG Rumor 2 can now be spotted in the wild in “vibrant blue” but as far as improvements on its pioneering predecessor, Sprint users are still holding their breath. With no 3G support and a passé 1.3 megapixel camera, the LG Rumor 2 isn’t going to be sending any Pulitzer Prize winning photos across Sprint’s network at anything swifter than a snail’s pace.
But if being an amateur paparazzi ain’t your thing and you just want an intuitive, tried and true design with excellent call quality and a spacious keyboard with corporate e-mail connectivity, then the free LG Rumor 2 that Sprint is offering with a new contract may be a good deal. There’s no 3G support and it doesn’t work with EV-DO, but if you need to stay in sync with your Outlook or Lotus Notes, then the LG Rumor 2 can handle it. That marks just about the only new trick that this old dog has learned – but for a phone that was pretty cutting edge for its day and age, riding on the wave of its previous success isn’t completely a wash for the LG Rumor 2. It still has one of the best QWERTY keyboards and just under 6 hours of talk time on a single battery charge.
Bottom-line: The free LG Rumor 2 from Sprint is just as good as the original LG Rumor. Problem is, the contenders have all stepped up their game, which is casting a shadow on the new, but only slightly improved, LG Rumor 2.
