Cell Phone Comparison: Palm Pre vs. Palm Pixi
The most noticeable difference between the Palm Pre on the Sprint network and the Palm Pixi has to do entirely with design. While the Pre is a slider phone, the Pixi comes in candy bar form. Some users prefer the Pixi to the Pre, since the Pixi is less bulky and sleeker all-around.
Aside from style differences, there are also major power differences between the two. Since Palm’s main purpose in creating the Pixi was to manufacture a phone that’s smaller, cuter, and slicker, it’s no surprise that the Pixie does not have as much internal strength at the Pre does. The fact that the Pixi has less RAM and a lesser chipset boils down to one thing – running a bunch of different apps on the Pixi may cause overload.
Likewise, Palm has given the Pixi a lighter version of Pre’s camera capabilities. By reducing the image size by two megapixels, Pixi’s camera is not as satisfactory, but if you aren’t attempting to shoot award winning photography Pixi’s camera will do. Another noticeable difference is Pixi’s screen size.
Since the Pixi is a smaller phone, it stands to reason that Pixi’s screen is also smaller – a minor difference if you don’t mind staring at a lesser screen. When all is said and done, the Pixi is a much more stylish phone than the Pre. Only, to compensate for that stylish look, Palm has taken away a few of Pre’s more attractive features. If you want a stylish phone without Wi-Fi capabilities, then the Pixi is a good and inexpensive choice. If you want a phone that has everything but lacks style, then the Pre is probably a better bet.
