Cell Phone Comparison: Palm Pre Plus vs. Palm Pre Pixi Plus
The recent unveiling of the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pre Pixi Plus (both on the Verizon Network) had previous Pixi and Pre owners excited with anticipation. While there were a few significant changes to each phone, some users will find that these changes are somewhat disappointing.
One of the biggest improvements on the Palm Pre Plus was the extended keyboard. Previously, the Pre had a QWERTY keyboard that was less than practical, though this has been revamped to include a significantly larger keyboard that is far better for texting.
Pixi users who were unhappy with the lack of Wi-Fi on the original Pixi will be happy to note that the Pixi Plus now has Wi-Fi – sadly, this is the only change to the Pixi hardware. Contrastingly, the Pre Plus now has 16GB of storage and more than double the RAM than its predecessor.
Externally, the Pixi Plus doesn’t look any different than the Pixi (though different skins are available), though this is not necessarily a drawback, since the original Pixi was sleek enough. Aside from the upgrades that have already been mentioned, the Pixi Plus and the Palm Pre Plus are only slightly better than the original Pixi and Pre.
For those who want a small and compact phone with Wi-Fi capabilities, the Pixi Plus is a good buy. For those who seek a powerful phone with a usefully keyboard, the Pre Plus is the way to go. Still, styles has to count for something and when it comes to style the Pre Plus can’t touch Pixi’s slim and colourful exterior.
