Cell Phone Comparison: Motorola Droid vs. Motorola Devour
Attentive Cell-Phone-Plans.net shoppers have probably noticed that we have two Motorola Android phones on offer from Verizon Wireless: the Motorola Droid and the Motorola Devour. At a quick glance, these smartphones running Google’s open source operating system seem nearly identical. And they are very similar. Both have very nice touch screens, cameras with LED flash (5-megapixels for the Droid, 3 megapixels for the Devour) and a slide out QWERTY. So, what’s the difference?
We’ll spare you the nitty gritty details about the tech specs and skip to the bottom-line:
The Motorola Devour is better for texting and social media. But both are awesome Android phones.

There are numerous little differences between these two phones, but the X factor that you can’t miss is the MOTOBLUR user interface. We’ve seen this before on other Android phones, such as the Motorola Cliq, and it really goes a long way towards consolidating all your social media threads into an integrated interface. You can swipe through Twitter, Facebook and other social media feeds Tweetdeck style and you can choose to have separate inbox or a universal inbox for all of your social media accounts. You can easily update your status across all platforms and see what’s shakin’ at a glance without swapping awkwardly between clients. Plus, the Devour’s keyboard is a bit nicer, with keys that are more spaced out and are a bit more responsive and intuitive than the Droid’s notoriously flat keyboard. While we’re on the topic of on-board controls, the Devour trades in the D-pad for an optical trackpad, which works nice for the most part, but can get sticky when scrolling through icons.
Still, it’s important to note that these phones are nearly identical under the hood. MOTOBLUR is just a user interface – at their heart, they are both Android phones. That means with the right combination of third-party apps, you can easily get the Droid experience to closely match that of the Devour. There are some software disparities for the time being (i.e. Devour does Flash Lite while the Droid doesn’t…yet) but these will probably be evened out once the Droid gets a software update.
That’s our opinion. Do you agree? Tell us why or why not in the comments.
