If you are shopping for a cell phone for a senior, then there are a couple of things that you should take into consideration before purchasing any one phone. Unlike other cell phones, senior cell phones have been specially made with seniors in mind. Take a look at this checklist before you decide upon any cell phone for a senior.
First, don’t look for a phone based upon text messaging or photo messaging capabilities. Most seniors don’t care about this kind of technology, so purchasing a phone that includes the latest gadgets isn’t a good idea.
Next, look for a phone that has very large buttons. Many seniors have trouble viewing phones that have very small buttons. While small buttons may be a selling point for younger people, seniors prefer buttons that can be easily seen and easily found.
Then, check to see whether or not a phone has a dial tone. This may seem like an odd thing, since most cell phones don’t have dial tones, but many seniors are used to phones with dial tones. Thus, finding a phone that has a dial tone can mean the difference between a phone that a senior will like, and one that a senior may find confusing.
Finally, find out whether or not the phone you are considering will work well with a hearing aid. Many cell phones aren’t hearing aid compatible, but a lot of newer phones are. This is something that you’ll have to ask a cell phone carrier, but the senior you are shopping for will be glad that you did!
Remember to look only for simple phones that don’t come with a lot of complex features. In fact, the simpler a phone is the easier it will be for a senior to use that phone. Before you buy any cell phone for a senior, make sure to take a good look at the above list.
