Senior Citizen Cell Phones: Finding One
When it comes to finding a phone for a senior citizen and you’re the one that is helping someone find one the first and most important thing that you need to keep in mind that the most important thing is to have access to 911.
With that said even if there is a phone that is purchased without a service plan every single phone is required by law of being able to place a call to 911 regardless of if it is actually activated or not. The reason I bring this up is that if the purpose is emergency only you can just pass them an old phone or you can get in touch with Phones for Life.
The Phones for Life program is one that makes the phones that are donated available to the senior citizens and those that are disabled at no cost. So if you’re reading this and don’t have someone in your life to donate that phone to the Phones for Life program is definitely worth it. Don’t just throw that old phone away, donate it.
Sometimes there can be some problems with the ease of use for some users. When this happens to be the case you can than look for something from a company Clayton Communications. They have something that’s called Safe Guardian. What the Safe Guardian is is a phone that is an emergency only one and has a large 911 button. The downside to this is that it is $39.95 a month and comes with a one year contract. It’s a lot of money for limited functionality but if it’s something that can save the life of someone you love and a regular phone won’t work for them it’s something that is well worth the price.
Even some customers that are middle aged and have no disabilities can get very frustrated with their phones choices. So if you get that from people that are in the “technology generation” and they have problems you can imagine how it goes for those of an advanced age or disability. As someone gets older it can be very hard to read the small text and use very tiny buttons. It’s time for companies to take notice and value the customer input and come up with more phone choices. Companies in Japan and Europe are doing so and hopefully phones will come available within the United States as well.
Currently no United States carrier has announced some plans for having a simplified phone. If you desire something that is less complicated and some of the other models aren’t as appealing for you then you should look at something like a low cost phone that has an included service plan with it. They are usually bigger and more simple phones than the more expensive models that are out there that are tiny and packed.
The one thing that is undeniable is that senior citizens need an outlet in case of emergency and a cell phone of any type is needed. Look for one for the senior in your life, even if it is just a phone so they can dial 911 and get potentially lifesaving help.

It is true, one of the important functions of cell phones for seniors is its capability to call for help in times of emergency. This is the main reason why I insisted my father to use one despite of his disapproval. The first cell phone that I purchased for him was Jitterbug. I was very much convinced by its ads. To my dismay though, the phone constantly fail to dial 911, which is definitely impractical. In three weeks time, I decided to cancel the service.
I bought Just5 phone two weeks after that. I never hesitated to invest on this one because I’ve carefully checked reviews made by the users of this phone and they were all clear. It’s been almost nine months now and my father still uses it. My father and I love this phone a lot because it is truly reliable. One press on its emergency S.O.S., it will automatically dial the pre-programmed numbers until someone has picked up the call. The loud sound produced when dialing the numbers is also intended to serve as an alarm to catch the attention of people around. This is the reason why we don’t want to trade this phone to another model despite of the many recent models that are being out now in the market. Just5 is just incomparable!

The SVC is such a fantastic idea. Its really cheap because its designed for people who don’t use their phone too often. There aren’t any contracts or bills because you pay, then used what you payed for. This way, there are never hidden fees, or extra fees
