Lose your smartphone? Rogers or BCAA, Not to Worry

Rogers Handset Protection Guarantee

Rogers has announced a brand new program called the “Handset Protection Guarantee”. What this guarantee does is allow customers who have an eligible stolen, lost or a broken device will be able to get a replacement device at “zero cost” or a “subsidized replacement device”.
(It really seems that nobody wants to use the word “free” anymore)
If you end up with a broken device you have a couple of options. You can either decide to take advantage of the discount toward getting a replacement device. Or you can have Rogers assess the damage to your phone and then provide you with a subsidized quote and then repair the damage to your device within a period of 10 business days. Replacement options are going to include both new and refurbished options and you’ll even have some $0 cost options.
This program is a very welcome one and definitely a little late in coming. So what are your thoughts on this program? Is this the best program out there or is the program from BCAA with their mobile insurance better? Read on to decide.

BCAA Mobile Device Insurance

BCAA is the first of the home insurers in Canada to offer their customers mobile device insurance. They’ve announced that they are going to be adding special coverage’s for mobile devices like smartphones, iPods and more into their home insurance mix.
According to the press release BCAA is claiming to be the first insurance company within Canada to offer their customers this type of insurance on:
•    New homes
•    Existing homes
•    Condos
•    Tenant policies
The coverage starts for as little as only $3 a month for $300 in coverage, $6 per month for $750 worth of coverage, etc… All made claims are completely free of deductibles and in no way affect the annual premiums.
If your device is accidentally lost, stolen or damaged BCAA is going to pay out of the cost to replace it all the way up to the coverage limit. Your service provider doesn’t matter. Also mobile device insurance is going to pay for incidentals like unrecoverable downloads of:
•    Songs
•    Games
•    Ringtones
•    More
Things that you’ve purchased and then lost along with your mobile device will be covered.
Further intrigued? BCAA mobile device insurance is able to be added to any current or new home insurance policy so you can look for other home insurance providers to follow their lead.
