Types of Mobile Searches
As mobile phones continue to advance and utilize more internet applications and technologies, mobile searches will become increasingly important. The growing popularity of smartphones and expanding capabilities of mobile phones in general are leading to not only more mobile searches, but more specialized search engines designed for mobile applications.
Just as search engines grew with popularity as the internet expanded, as mobile internet technology advances so has the way people use their mobile devices to search for information they need. Rather than being developed for broad, sweeping searches, such as one might do for a research paper, mobile searches tend to be more specific, as people tend to be searching for more specific content relevant more to their activity moment to moment.
In order to better accommodate mobile search users, several different types of searches have developed, in addition to mobile optimized platforms from internet search engine giants like Google and Yahoo. Two of the most popular kinds of mobile searches are mobile question and answer searches, such as KGB, where the user sends a question via text message or email and gets an immediate reply answer. The other type is mobile directory search, which is sometimes referred to as “mobile yellow pages”; mobile directory searches utilize location-based technology, such as GPS, to provide results to the user that are most relevant based on services sought and present user location
There are several other types of specialized mobile searches currently available that will be looked at in future blog posts.
