Overlooked Cell Phone Uses and Features


Your cell phone has several functions that could help you in an emergency situation, but many people do not know about them.  From contacting emergency services wherever you are to finding hidden battery power, these services will make your cell phone an even more valuable tool.

UNIVERSAL EMERGENCY NUMBER

The Universal Emergency Number for mobile phones is 112.  If you are outside of your network coverage area and you have an emergency, dialing this number will search any network for connect you with emergency response services in that area.  You can even dial the number when your phone’s keypad is locked.

DISABLING A STOLEN CELL PHONE

First, find out the serial number for your mobile phone by keying in the following digits: * # 0 6 #.  Then, a fifteen-digit number specific to your handset will appear on the screen.  Write that number down and keep it in a safe place.  Then, if your phone is stolen, call your provider with that number, and they will be able to block your handset, even if the SIM card is changed.  While you may never get your phone back, no one will be able to use or sell it either.

RESERVE BATTERY POWER

If your mobile phone is very low on battery power, key in *3370# and your phone will shut down and restart.  When it has re-started, you should see a 50% in your phone’s battery power.  The battery reserve will recharge the next time you charge your phone.
