Skype Is Now Available For the Symbian Smartphone

Skype just made the announcement that the availability of the Skype product on three different smartphones from Sony Ericsson is now possible. The smartphone availability is those smartphones which are based on the Symbian platform which is currently the most popular smartphone platform.
The users of the following phones can now use the Skype function on the move:
• Satio
• Vivaz
• Vivaz Pro
This can be done through either a Wi-Fi connection or a mobile data connection. You can download it through visiting http://www.skype.com/m on a handset that is compatible. It’s also going to be available on the Play Now arena sometime later in the month.
The Skype for Symbian is going to enable the user to:
• Make free calls to other Skype users throughout the world by using the Skype to Skype feature
• Save money on international calls and texts
• Send and receive instant messages to and from either individuals or groups
• Share videos, pictures and other files
• Receive calls to an existing online phone number
• View when contacts are online and available to either instant message or call
• Import your contacts from the phones address book
The Skype service will run on any smartphone that’s using the latest version of the Symbian platform.
The applications for both social networking and communication are extremely popular with the mobile smartphone users. The opportunity to have Skype along with the other applications that are already available for the phones that were listed above are going to make a very compelling reason for potential buyers to purchase the Symbian platform.
There’s an amazingly high demand for the Skype on mobile. The smartphone user wants to keep in contact with their loved ones and the other people that are important to them without having to think about and worry about the costs of using their mobile phone and the distance when they have to be away from their computer.
The company looks at this as a way to meet the demand of the consumer through making the product available on a wide range of devices through entering relationships with the operators as well as the handset manufacturers.
This is something that’s definitely an advantage for the consumer as they’ll now have the option of avoiding the very expensive international calling plans and have the ability to just make these phone calls from their Symbian platform smartphone rather than having to wait until they get home or stop and make a phone call from their laptop while on the go. It definitely gives an edge for someone to look into purchasing a smartphone from Sony Ericsson running the Symbian platform rather than another manufacturer if they fit the mold of Skype breaking the deal toward that favor.
This is definitely a step that would come eventually and you can expect some of the other manufacturers and cell phone providers to eventually follow suit. In today’s smartphone world you either adapt to the desires of the consumer or you’re quickly going to be out of the game.
