Find the Cheapest Beer or Barber near You
For those people that are looking to find a great deal near home the complete and unexpected flood of options are more than just a little bit awe-inspiring. Websites that are publishing local deals are beginning to pop up everywhere. These come from anywhere from Groupon and the imitators to Foursquare and Twitter, to other super confined regional and local websites. Add to that the offers that you find in the mail and newspaper ads and there is a mass influx of information.
There is a new website that aims to fix this problem though. It aims to do this through the aggregation of all of the local deals in one centralized place. This website is called The Dealmap. The Dealmap is a derivative of Center’d which was a local search engine startup. Unlike some of the other startups it’s backed by almost $9 million dollars in venture capital, coming from various investors and also in large part Northwest Venture Partners.
The Chief Executive for Center’d stated that she wanted to be able to build a website that gathered local deals for five years now, ever since she was in charge of the local and marketplaces Yahoo division. Now it’s finally a possibility for her.
The problem wasn’t with there being no deals; it’s that the content simply hadn’t been online. Now the combination of more and more businesses getting more comfortable with using the internet along with the proliferation of social media and the smartphone mobile devices allows for collection and sharing at a level never before possible.
With the Center’d product, people do their searches by the city as well as the event or the place.
Dealmap is something that allows people to search for something based upon wanting to get what they are looking for at the lowest possible price. The website will take you to a map and you’re able to look at deals just near your house or even worldwide. You can sort them out by their category, type or by keyword.
You’ll click on the deal and then you’ll go to the original publisher of the offer or coupon you’re wanting. Dealmap is something that pulls in the deals from many places. When people either click or click and purchase something the websites will get their cut and then share the revenue with Dealmap which is how Dealmap makes their money.
It will also pull in deals from social media websites like Twitter and Facebook. Those that sign into Dealmap with Facebook are able to:
• Post their own deal
• Recommend a deal
• Comment on deals
The people that do this will get points for doing this and can even earn badges. One of these badges is the Deal Hero Power badge.
Dealmap also lets other web publishers to be able to tap into the system and put deals up on their websites. These publishers are able to feed the deals directly back into Dealmap.
