Blackberry Maker, RIM, Rumored to Release iPhone Killer Touch-Screen Phone Next Week
The maker of the Blackberry, RIM, is rumored to be releasing a touch-screen smartphone that’s likely to be their version of an iPhone killer sometime in this coming week. Attempting to topple the Apple iPhone is a task that’s exceptionally big. This is even more the case when you face delays and shortages of equipment which really dog their rivals, prime example below.
Sprint/Nextel just stated that they had a net add of 111k wireless customers in Q2. This is the first positive net gain that they’ve had in customers in three years of time. Sprint gave the credit to the uptick to their most advanced smartphone, the HTC EVO. Although the number 3 United States mobile provider promises more gains in their customer uptake within the next year Sprint stated that growth is going to be stunted through EVO shortages.
Also this past week there were plenty of rumors aflutter as RIM is going to be unveiling their long anticipated touch-screen handset which is nicknamed the “iPhone killer”.
Even though RIM has been able to keep their dominant position when it comes to the business class smartphone market the push toward the consumer realm with their soon to be released consumer device simply might not take. Not only this but some analysts are putting this phone already in the “too little too late” realm.
RIM has lost a big share of the market in North America has been lost to Apple’s iPhone which has an easier-to-use touch-screen along with a multitude of the other smartphones which are running the Android operating system from Google.
Even though some of the analysts think that this is too little too late the one thing that might save the company is the timing. They’re looking to launch in the back to school season which is a very key period to go after the consumer market. When you look at it from that perspective the market is looking fairly good.
RIM should most likely be announcing the launch of this slider 9800 handset in an event this coming Tuesday.
